DIY Lace hemmed High Waisted Shorts

I'm super excited to share how I made these adorable Lace hemmed High Waisted Shorts!

The super impressive pinterest posts of DIY high waisted shorts are so daunting to me so I decided to go out and make my own, without directions! The hardest part, to say the least, was finding a pair of high waisted jeans at the thrift store that actually fit, but after 2 hours of hunting and 2 different thrift stores, I found a pair.

1. Go to your local thrift store, and find a pair of high waisted jeans. (these will probably look very ugly when you try them on and may even be too short like mine, but you are going to cut them anyways, so it does not matter)

2. Get over that fact that they look terrible, because your new shorts will be stylin'

Here I laid out the pair of jeans I bought to figure out exactly what I was doing. Make sure you try them on to make sure they are the right fit for you. If they are too tight, they may look odd.

This not so stylish crocheted sweater I found and thought the edges could be cut for the hem of the shorts.

3) Try on your jeans and mark using a piece of chalk preferably (I only had sharpie and was confident) and mark a good shorts length adding about 2 inches to make sure they work. (You can always cut them shorter, but can't make them longer)

4.) Then using fabric scissors, cut straight across where you made the mark all the way around each leg.

5.) They may not look even when you have cut them, but that's why we try them on :)

6.) Here I tried them on and cuffed them to the length I wanted.

7.) Next, take off the shorts and cut them to the new length and use the scissors to fray the ends or a more laid back distressed look.

8.) Take the lace you are using and cut about a foot and a half of 2 inch thick lace or however thick you'd like. 2 inches gives room to cut more if you'd like.

9.) Lay the lace around the shorts and cut off the extra length leaving about an extra inch.

10.) Next turn the shorts inside out. This step is optional. I just used fabric glue to secure the lace temporarily until I sewed it on. This made it easier on the sewing machine.

11.) This is how it should look on one leg and then continue to the other.

12.) Again, an optional step, but here I cut about and inch thick and 4 inches long wide piece and glued it right above the pocket. I though it added a unique touch.

13.) Next, if you don't think your shorts will be secure with the glue (the shorts probably won't make it through the wash with just glue) sew around each leg about 1/4th of an inch from the end of the shorts. Try and use a thread that will blend in with jeans.

14.) Make sure to close the part where the lace meets and overlaps slightly.

Super comfortable and easy to pair with a comfortable top.

Love the back

April Favorites

April

April has been quite a busy month for me, but there are so many things I have enjoyed this month! Take a look!

These shorts are my latest obsession! They are so comfy even when its super hot!

This watermelon lemonade candle from bath and body works has my heart. Smells like summer and I cannot wait!

I have rediscovered my love for the Pink Sugar perfume my grandma once introduced me to long ago! Almost died when I found it at my local Tjmaxx

I have had this Clinique chubby stick for the longest time and have realized how perfect it is for everyday color! Not to bright, not to sheer. Its in woppin' watermelon.

Has to be my all time favorite nail polish.
OPI's "You're such a budapest"

These New Balances have had their good wear for the past two months. Perfect casual and stylish tennis shoe.

I have had these these Jack Rogers for about a year now and man do I wear these ALL THE TIME! Took a while to break in, but totally worth it.

Guess what? These hot pink headphones were $5 at target and I couldn't love them more if I tried. Awesome for late night homework and random jam sessions.

More about Lilly for Target...

It's the people like this who really make me upset:

First off, are we in the 60's again? Do you still have a maid that you treat terribly?

Come on, we are in the 21st century people, please have some class if you are a true "Lilly fanatic".

Lilly for Target? How everything played out...

So, like every other girl in America last night, I stayed up until 3 am hustling to get target's much advertised designer line, Lilly for Target. For one, the only Lilly I own is the agenda's, occasional tumblrs etc. I am not one to splurge on a $200 dress, and haven't because I haven't found an occasion worth my $200. So naturally when target announced they would be doing a line with Lilly I was ecstatic. I knew there would be controversy and there was. From what I understand Lilly would not be proud of the ones boasting their status and degrading all those buying Lilly for Target. She would have been proud of her work and how far it has come. (Partnering for target is a big deal FYI!!!)

All this aside, I knew I would be staying up to get the things I loved from the catalog. At about 11:30 my sister and I were able to order everything except the bikini bottoms through apparent leaked mobile links through twitter. (Thank goodness!) However, most of you know there were many complications with target's website. It was slow and constantly shut down when you had everything in your cart and wanted to check out.

Needless to say, here's what I ended up with! I am very happy with these purchases, all done online in the wee hours.

The shift dresses were a must for me! They can be worn to almost any event and I know I will be able to pair them with my Jack Rogers and be ready to go.

I've always wanted a high waisted bikini and the fact that it's a cute lilly print makes everything better!

The romper my sister actually picked out for us to share and I think it will be so easy to throw on when it's hot in the summer!
